The newly redesigned budget-friendly Pro-Form 505 CST Treadmill (2016 Model) is designed for durability and convenience. The SpaceSaver design equips this model with the EasyLift folding mechanism, making it quick and hassle-free to fold and store the machine as needed. However; this compact model does not compromise convenience for comfort.
Designed with Pro-Form’s own ProShox Cushioning, the 505 CST provides users with supreme cushioning throughout the entire running area to protect joints from the demands of running or walking. A 2.5 CHP motor drives this treadmill, offering users a motorized incline of up to 10% and speeds from 0 to 10 mph.
However; the running area is relatively compact at 20″ x 55″, but that is part of the overall compact design. This model also has smaller 1.9″ balanced, non-flex rollers that decrease tension and help to create a smoother running belt. Again, because this is a compact model, the rollers are pretty small.
The console area is pretty basic, equipped with audio functionality, a reading rack, and water bottle holders. Users also have access to a 6″ backlit screen featuring three displays that show speed, time and distance. Also included are 18 built-in workout programs developed by certified personal trainers.
Product: Pro-Form 505 CST Treadmill (2016 Model)
Warranty: a lifetime on the frame, 25 years on the motor and one year on parts.
My rating 8.5/10
The 505 CST treadmill comes equipped with 18 different workout programs. There are 5 displayed “quick” programs that are marked by buttons directly below the screen. Calorie burn, intensity training, sprinting, incline, and manual modes mark these 5 distinct programs. Simply click one and proceed to the start button before beginning your excursion.
Aside from these quick-start options, the device has programmed additional workouts into the mainframe. Clicking the ‘Priority Display’ button will bring up a selection menu on the display screen. Use the speed increase/decrease buttons to scale through these loaded options. When you have found a selection that meets your needs, hit the ‘Start’ button.
Beyond these programming workouts, one can create their own pace and set through the different levels of speed and incline. Directly below the custom workout buttons are numbered ranges from speed and incline. They are numbered 1-10 respectively, equating to both speeds in MPH and incline in percentages.
Combine the numbers into any position you feel comfortable with. The machine will build up the speed gradually, leaving you plenty of time to catch your pace. If you wish to control speed and incline in a more calculated fashion, there are two plus and minus buttons with headings featuring these two elements. This will increase/decrease speed at 0.1 MPH and incline at 0.1%.
If you are struggling to find a workout that suits your style, give one of the custom programs a try. If you have your running/walking pattern down to a science, control your device to meet your needs. The amount of customizability associated with this device is expansive and gives you plenty of room to try out new options.

What We Like:
Price: This model impresses with its $999 list price tag (however, it sells for much less on amazon.com). Even for an entry-level model, this is an excellent price from a reputable brand. The lifetime warranty on the frame is also an essential guarantee for this price.
Folding Design: A SpaceSaver design, this model uses EasyLift folding technology to make it incredibly easy to fold and store away the machine with no trouble. The deck is also light and compact, so it’s great for small spaces.
Program Variety: For an entry-level treadmill, 18 built-in programs are pretty good. These workout programs offer something for everyone and are developed by certified personal trainers, so you can be confident you are going to be able to better achieve desired results by using any one of these programs. Also, the treadmill will adjust incline and speed automatically, based on the program you choose.
Audio Capabilities: Though this model lacks some entertainment flair, it does come equipped with two 2″ Intermix Acoustics speakers and smartphone compatibility.
Motor: It’s not the most powerful motor, but 2.5 HP isn’t bad. What makes this motor a bonus on this model is that it is a Mach Z commercial-grade, electromagnetic DC motor. This all translates to a motor that is powerful, long-lasting and quiet when in operation.
Warranty: Pro-Form offers a lifetime warranty on the frame, 25 years on the motor and one year on parts. These are great offerings and shows that Pro-Form stands behind its equipment no matter the price.
Motor: 2.5 HP
Incline: 0 – 10%
Running Area: 20″ x 55″
Top Speed: 10 MPH
Weight Capacity: 325 LBS
Dimensions: 68″ L x 73″ W x 36″ H
Built-In Programs: 18
What We Don’t Like:
Running Area: Even though this is supposed to be a more compact model, the running area is still fairly cramped at just 20″ wide and 55″ long. This can be an issue for taller people.
Speed Controls: 10 mph isn’t too bad, but we like to see speed offerings closer to the average 12 mph. A running speed topping out at ten mph can be a problem if you want to do sprint runs or interval training.
Heart Rate Monitoring: The 505 CST comes with a KG heart rate grip sensor, as well as heart rate monitoring programs, but you cannot use a wireless receiver to track heart rate with this model.
Final thoughts on the Pro-Form 505 CST Treadmill:
The Pro-Form 505 CST Treadmill is an excellent buy for its price. It’s a solidly constructed treadmill with comparable motor and deck size to all other competitors in this range. What sets the Pro-Form 505 CST Treadmill apart is the sheer number of exercise options that you get on this machine. No other mid-range treadmill can match it.
The lifetime warranty on the frame and the 25-year warranty on the motor will set your mind at ease on this purchase. Highly recommended.
